A merchant account is a bank account that handles funds received via credit cards. If you have a retail business, and are swiping people’s cards, then you already have a merchant account. However, you’ll still need to contact your bank and ask them to set up an Internet merchant account. This will give you the ability to process credit cards without the card being physically present for the transaction.
